PM SHRI AU GIC Baram

The Mid-Day Meal Scheme was first introduced in the school in accordance with the national program launched by the Government of India in 1995. The core objective of this scheme is to provide nutritious cooked meals to children studying in government and government-aided schools, thereby supporting their physical growth, nutritional health, and active learning capacity. The motto of the Mid-Day Meal Scheme is: “Sarva Shiksha, Sampoorn Poshan” (Universal Education, Complete Nutrition) This reflects the belief that a healthy child is better able to learn and grow, and that no child should be kept away from school due to hunger.
Meals are prepared freshly every day in a clean and designated kitchen area within the school premises. The school follows strict hygiene protocols, and all meals are cooked under the supervision of trained staff, ensuring quality and safety. The meals provided are nutritionally balanced, typically consisting of rice, pulses, green vegetables, and occasionally fruits or milk, based on the weekly menu prescribed by the education department. Special care is taken to include iron- and protein-rich food items to prevent malnutrition and anemia among children. The school has a Mid-Day Meal Monitoring Committee, which includes teachers, School Management Committee (SMC) members, and local representatives. This committee is responsible for supervising the procurement, preparation, and distribution process, and also regularly takes student feedback to improve the quality of meals.
Apart from ensuring nutrition, the scheme has positively impacted school attendance, enrollment, retention of students (especially girls and children from weaker sections), and their overall academic concentration. The school also encourages good hygiene habits, such as handwashing before and after meals. The Mid-Day Meal Scheme remains a strong pillar of the school’s mission to deliver inclusive, accessible, and quality education, ensuring that every child receives not only knowledge but also nourishment.
